Thailand – New Tax Breaks To Slow Ageing Population

The Thai Government has approved three additional tax breaks to slow ageing population in the country.

Effective 2018, this new tax allowance will allow parents to deduct THB 60,000 per child from the second child onwards when filing their personal income tax return form. Currently, the tax deduction is at THB 30,000 per child starting from the first child.

Also, parents will be able to deduct prenatal care and birth delivery costs up to THB 60,000 per year.

This new tax scheme also encourages private companies to build nurseries and child care facilities within their compounds for their employees’ children to reduce their corporate income tax. They will be able to deduct 200% of the construction costs up to THB 1 million per year.

The Government expects to lose THB 2.5 billion from such tax breaks.
